Social Workers

Families First is one of the leading providers of family based, in-home and in-office services in the State of Iowa.  We are accredited by the State of Iowa; employ approximately 200 employees; serve approximately 3,000 individuals through our various programs; have offices in Bettendorf, Burlington, Cedar Rapids, Clinton, Dubuque, Decorah, Keokuk, Marshalltown, Oelwein, Waterloo, Fort Dodge, and Mason City; and provide services to the counties surrounding each of these offices.  Our employees assist entire families with the daily stressors enabling them to balance a family, work and school.

Our qualified and experienced staff perform a variety of support and services, information collection and dissemination, documentation and reporting for the Family, Safety, Risk & Permanency Services; Counseling, Support & Education Services; and Behavioral Health Intervention Services for the agency. 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Complete required documentation prior to service initiation
  • Patient Bill of Rights
  • Client Grievance and Appeals Procedure
  • Informed Consent
  • Release of Information
  • Administer the North Carolina Family Assessment Scale G +R
  • Work to connect family with community resources and informal supports as identified in the case plan
  • In initial session, Care coordinator completes Visitation and Supervision Planning Schedule with family to coordinate visits, supervision and instruction
  • Make face-to-face contact with the family within five [5] business days of the Department referral and participate in a face-to-face initial joint meeting
  • Send an e-mail to the Department worker and regional mailbox confirming that the initial face-to-face meeting with the family has occurred and the date of this meeting within 2 business days of the face-to-face contact
  • Attend all family team meetings held on the children and family while the case is open
  • Align the specific range of delivering services and supports with the results of these meetings and the family’s Department Case Plan
  • Attend court hearings and other meetings on the children and family while the case is open
  • Maintain and document a minimum of face –to-face contact with the identified family members monthly
  • Identify and address any safety concerns concerning cases during service delivery and promptly report any safety concerns to the Department worker or their supervisor by telephone, e-mail, or other means
  • Promptly notify the Department worker concerning any children or adults exiting the household or new children or adults entering the household, while the case is open
  • Complete a face-to- face assessment of the safety and well being of all children in the case at least once per month while the case is open
  • On an ongoing basis throughout service delivery, assess the educational, physical and mental health conditions, strengths and needs of all children in cases open for services; and, in consultation with the Department worker, refer children for additional evaluation or services that may be necessary
  • Coordinate service planning, including planning for parent/child and sibling interactions, with staff from the child’s/children’s placement setting
  • Coordinate the contractor’s services with services and supports children and families may be receiving from other sources, including both public and private organizations and informal community networks
  • Provide crisis intervention differential responses within two [2] hours to case crisis situations that present significant risks to the safety, permanency, or well-being of the children
  • Implement plans to connect children and families to other community resources and informal supports, such as local community centers, mentors, or community support groups, and reduce their reliance on formal services
  • Adhere to all requirements and expectations of completing a high quality of documentation using forms developed for the Family Safety, Risk and Permanency Services
  • Complete Mandatory Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Training and be familiar with and follow all aspects of mandatory child abuse training
  • Provide agency endorsed evidenced based curriculum and interventions to the family to decrease the threat of maltreatment

Education/Training/Work Experience

Associate’s Degree from an accredited college in Social Work/Human Services related field and four (4) years full-time experience in Child Welfare; or

A Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or related field from an accredited college/university and one (1) year full-time experience in Child Welfare; or

A Master’s Degree from an accredited college in Social Work/Human Services related field and one (1) year child welfare experience

Possession of a valid Driver’s license within the State of Residence.
